UMD Golf Course Joins Monarchs in the Rough
We are happy to announce that the UMD Golf Course has joined Monarchs in the Rough, a partnership with the Environmental Defense Fund and Audubon International to help fight the population decline of monarch butterflies. We have partnered with Monarchs in the Rough to fight habitat loss of monarch butterflies by planting milkweed in out-of-play areas on our golf course.
The monarch butterfly population has declined by 90% in the last twenty years, putting this species incredibly close to extinction. A key factor is loss of milkweed habitat, which is vital for the caterpillar's diet and life cycle. Milkweed is where monarchs lay their eggs and is also the food caterpillars must eat to survive. We are proud to be a part of this effort to support monarch butterfly populations by growing habitat. Please contact us for more details or if you want to support our efforts!
